Abstract: Nuclear factor erythroid-derived factor 2-related factor 2(Nrf2) is a key factor in anti-oxidation in most species. Once oxidative stress stimulus occurs, Nrf2 transfers into the nucleus, and binds to antioxidant response element (ARE), and then regulates the expression of a variety of antioxdants and detoxifying enzymes to protect cells against oxidants injury. The Nrf2/ARE pathway involvs in the pathological process of many diseases, such as inflammation, respiratory disease, cardiovascular disease and tumor. But there is not enough research about its function in the female reproductive system, especially in ovary. In this article, we reviews the basic components of Nrf2/ARE pathway and its regulation, and the advanced study of this pathway in ovarian diseases, especially in ovarian aging.
