Glyburide for the Treatment of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus

Abstract: Gestational diabetes mellitus is one of the most common complications during pregnancy. The control of blood sugar impacts on maternal and fetal outcome of pregnancy. Currently, it usually gives the patients with diet and exercise to control the blood sugar in our clinical practice. If it can not work, insulin will be used. There is rarely oral hypoglycemic medication being used in clinical practice in gestational diabetes mellitus. Glibenclamide used as a commonly used oral hypoglycemic agents has not been found teratogenic effects in the present animal experiments and clinical trials. The clinical application is increasing in foreign countries. This article will discuss the applications of glibenclamide in gestational diabetes mellitus.
