Abstract: The Ethinylestradiol (0.03 mg)/Drospirenone (3 mg) is a novel combined oral contraceptive (Yasmin). Unlike other progestogens,Drospirenone is a novel progestin that is structurally related to 17-alpha-spirolactone and has progestogen activity,anti-mineralocorticoid and anti-androgenic activity. Yasmin has been proven to be an effective and well tolerated contraceptive with an acceptable bleeding pattern and a good safe profile. It can improve the symptoms of water retention and hyperandrogenism. It is better than other progestin containing oral contraceptives in terms of weight control and premenstrual syndrome. There are bright prospects for the added benefits of Yasmin as oral contraceptive.
