Abstract: Preeclampsia is a obstetrical complication with high perinatal mortality and morbidity. It is characterized by shallow trophoblast invasion in maternal uterine spiral arteries. Despite there are more and more understanding on the pathophysiology of preeclampsia,it is difficult to predict effectively in time in clinic. There are some relationship between the disordered placenta function and the poor pregnancy outcomes. However, any single parameter of placenta function could not be used as a exact predictor for preeclampsia. The improved ultrasound will provide a useful novel tool for prediction, but measurement of ultrasound need to be standardized. The test of biochemical markers in the first trimester, combined with the uterine artery Doppler screening, may be a promising screening tool.
