Abstract: Human placenta are the major site of production and secretion of inhibin A and activin A in maternal serum，amniotic fluid，and umbilical cord blood. It is evident from recent studies that inhibin A and Activin A could be the better markers of placental function. Becasuse the values of inhibin A and activin A differ in the pathogenesis of gestational diseases，such as gestational trophoblastic disease，abortion，ectopic pregnancy，hypertensive disorders complicating pregnancy，fetal hypoxia，aneuploidy，and so on. The measurement of inhibin A and activin A in the biological fluids of pregnancy will offer the possibility in the early diagnosis，prediction，and monitoring diseases of pregnancy.
