Abstract: Objective:To evaluate the change of the pelvic floor muscle (PFM) strength in patients with pelvic organ prolapse (POP) before and after the Prolift procedure. Methods: The study recruited 37 POP patients with stage Ⅱ-Ⅳ under POP-quantification from March 2011 to April 2013 in Tongji Hospital Affiliated Tongji University. The PFM strength was measured by digital examination and surface electromyography (SEMG) to evaluate the changes of PFM strength in patients before and after surgery, and compare with patients with normal pelvic floor function. Results: Prolift surgery can effectively improve the patient′s state of pelvic organ prolapse. There are a total of 36 postoperative POP patients whose POP-Q index decreased, and reached anatomical reduction. After the 6 months′ follow-up, the Oxford degree of PFM, pelvic floor muscles maximum voltage and duration of the muscle contractions increased significantly in the Prolift group(P=0.000), but lower than patients with normal pelvic floor function (P=0.000). Conclusions: The Prolift procedure could restore the pelvic anatomy and partly improve the PFM strength.
